About
Hello, and welcome to my blog! Born and raised in the Carolinas (first 18 years in N. Carolina, next four in S. Carolina), I’m now trying out the West Coast for a while, living in the bright and sunny city of Seattle, WA. (Ha, ha, the rainy season seems to have already started here. It’s Labor Day weekend as I’m writing this, and instead of sweating at the beach, I’m sitting here in my apartment dressed head-to-toe in fleece)!
I’m a graduate student at Seattle Pacific University in the MA-TESOL program and an English teacher for international students who are studying English here in Seattle. This is a great degree/job for me because I love experiencing new cultures through traveling, learning languages, and getting to know people from other countries. Since moving to Seattle I’ve had students and made friends from Colombia, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Russia, Libya, Romania, Kuwait, the Philippines, Slovakia, Italy, Turkey and many more countries!
When I’m not studying or teaching, I’m usually hanging out with my friends or out in search of the next great cup of coffee. (Seattle really is a coffee-lover’s dream city). I also enjoy discovering new music, going to small shows, reading, and photography (although I don’t have much time for any of these things these days)!
After finishing grad school I plan to leave the US for a little while. Hopefully I’ll move to Slovakia where I’ll teach English and be part of an amazing ministry there called Josiah Venture. JV works with youth groups in local churches to share the love and grace of God with high school students there. My experiences with JV during college are actually what inspired me to move across the country to get a degree in TESOL in the first place.
Alright, what I intended to be a “brief” bio turned into a fairly lengthy description. I hope you enjoy this blog, and, please, feel free to share this with your friends.
